The Only New Year's Resolution You Need for 2016!

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

Well Divas! Here we are! Welcome to 2016! And consequently, welcome to a whole new set of New Year's resolutions. I will be completely honest with you all...history has taught me that most of my New Year's resolutions don't make it past January. Not because I didn't have the adequate amount of willpower, but mainly because they were short-sighted. I've shared my thoughts on this in the past, which is why I had previously presented some broader alternatives to the usual resolution suspects (see here!). In addition to these alternatives, I have also highlighted certain things that every Professional Diva should do for herself in the new year (here...and here...and here!). This list has historically included things that I believe will help each woman improve their health, perform better in the workplace, and achieve a better work/life balance. As 2015 was coming to a close and I began thinking about resolutions and the things I wanted to include on 2016's list, I realized that every thing I had in mind somehow found its way back to one single resolution. All of the things that I believe every Professional Diva should do for herself in 2016 led me to the only resolution you need to make this year. Ready for it?!

The only resolution every Professional Diva should make in 2016 is...to be good to herself. Resolve to be good to YOU! That's all you really need, right? Think about it...many of the resolutions that people generally make generally lends themselves to self-betterment. Which made me think that if we moved through 2016 with the one goal of being good to ourselves, all of our individual, self-bettering resolutions would, by default, be realized.

So, in 2016, let's resolve to be good to ourselves. Let's make choices that will better our health. Select cleaner  foods from the grocery store...make and attend the appropriate doctors' appointments to check up on our health...find meaningful and effective ways to manage our stress...be more active and get more exercise...quit smoking. How about your career? What resolutions have you made regarding your career? I'm willing to bet that if you approach your career with the "I'm going to be good to myself and ensure that I achieve greater career satisfaction" attitude, you will succeed in making strides in this area.

In general, resolving to be good to yourself also requires you to make every effort to enjoy your life...yes, I said require! We work hard, and we should play hard. Whenever possible, take time to travel, or go to a spa, or a comedy show, or a new restaurant, or an amusement park. Have frequent get togethers with family and friends. Take a long bubble bath. Binge watch your favorite show on Netflix. I think you see my point. Just enjoy your life!

So back to my initial point. Do away with the common resolutions and embrace just one...BE GOOD TO YOURSELF. That's all you need because everything else will fall in line!

Happy New Year Divas! Hope to see you around the Chronicles a little more often this year!
