So where did we leave off...June arrived...maternity leave was set to begin on June 14th...I was pilfering away my work for the next few months to my colleagues...I was looking forward to having about 3 weeks to get myself prepared for motherhood...at least that was my thinking...and then I went in for a doctor's appointment on June 14th.
The Leave
June 14th finally arrived, and I went into the office to make final arrangements for my workload. I spoke to my colleagues to ensure that there weren't any questions or concerns regarding any tasks they were taking over for me. I squared things away with HR, and I left the office in the early afternoon to head to my last appointment at the New Jersey Perinatal Associates. As the Stud and I headed to the appointment, we were operating under the belief that Mini Me was scheduled to be delivered on July 12th...we thought we had a little under a month to get ourselves together. If only we knew then what we know now!
After speaking to my doctors, we were told that Mini Me had to be delivered earlier...two weeks earlier than expected...on June 27th! I freaked out a little bit. So, we now knew that we would be meeting Mini Me in less than two weeks, but of course I had a ton of things on my To-Do List that needed to get done before she arrived. I needed to get my hair done...I needed to get a pedicure...I needed to finish Mini Me's nursery...I needed to send out thank you cards to those who attended my baby shower...I needed more time to eat whatever the hell I wanted without feeling guilty...I just needed more time! Just so you all know, this is a control freak's worst nightmare!
So, over the next few days I started making lists, because obviously the To-Do List wasn't enough. Nope...I would find an old envelope and hand write any and every thing that I thought I needed to do before Mini Me arrived. I'm pretty sure I was driving the Stud crazy, but he clearly was not going to get funky with a 9 months pregnant crazy lady. I went on like this for the next 9 days...and then it all came to an end at about 5:30 a.m. on June 23rd. I am constantly reminded of a great quote from Woody Allen: "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him about your plans." I think He was giggling a little!
